Professor Deborah Sugg Ryan is a historian, author and broadcaster. She is a specialist in the history of houses, interiors, consumer culture and everyday life.

Deborah is Professor of Design History and Theory at the University of Portsmouth and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.

She is series consultant for BBC Two’s A House Through Time and has appeared in all four series. She wrote and presented the BBC Radio 4 series Trading Spaces in 2021, and has contributed to many other TV and radio programmes.

Deborah's most recent book is Ideal Homes: Uncovering the History and Design of the Interwar Home. She is currently writing a history of the modern kitchen.
